We Care, Support and Protect Key Populations and Vulnerable Groups in the era of Gender-Based Violence
Rekopane Drop-In Centre was registered with the DSD on the 22 November 2012, as Non-Profit Organisation, providing adolescent girls programs. We are based in West Village, that is situated in the West Rand District under Mogale City Municipality Gauteng.
The area is surrounded by dysfunctional mining shafts that attract illegal mining activities as a means of income generation. This has attracted adolescent people and young women from far and near to be involved in sex work. These activities happen in old, dilapidated mine buildings hence the high prevalence of Human Rights violations in a form of sexual violence leading to the spread of new HIV, TB and STI infections of Key populations and High-Risk groups, especially adolescent young people, LGBTQI+ et al.
The whole place is a hot spot of all social-ills, crime, human trafficking, homelessness, drug and substance abuse, gender-based violence and femicide hence our expansion plan includes the establishment of a Place of Safety for vulnerable, homeless and abused Key Populations.
